Why So Serious?

Whoops, wrong comic. The Watchmen's Comedian:

Why So Blue?

The last Watchmen alter I did was this one for Adam Styborski's cube, all the way back in March:

It's always nice to revisit themes, this time with more emphasis on the theatrical version:

Knocking out as much commission work as I can before my trip to SCG Indy this weekend. It's going to be an awesome two days of friends, new Standard, and of course, lots of painting. See you there!

@meddingmage

This evening I finished up a commission for Meddling Mage himself, Chris Pikula.

Hope you like Chris!

The Final Titans

About a month ago I started a project that involved painting nostalgic creatures from Alpha/Beta onto the M10 Titans...

Salvador Beleren

Today I'm adding to my artist-inspired Jace collection with an adaptation from Salvador Dali. A humble attempt at reproducing his painting, Dream of a Virgin.

A bizarre one to say the least.

Bread and Butter

Getting back to my roots with this one. Clique's a rough card to come with ideas for. On top of that, it's difficult to naturally compose three characters together. In the end I was very happy with this three-panel solution.

Black Dynamite

If you haven't seen the movie Black Dynamite, I highly recommend it. I mean, you get to hear sweet lines like, "Ain't nothin' in the world get Black Dynamite more mad than some jive ass sucka' dealin' smack to the kids!" Also there's the awesome visual appeal of the title character:

Is that a gun and nunchuks? Why yes, yes it is.

Superfly TNT

One of my favorite Koth's yet.

While it's a shame they all belong to different people, I'd love to see this set come together with a forth. MC Hammer anyone?

Jace, Primal Hunter

Jace, the Mind Sculptor has been banned in Standard for a few months now. Just when you thought he was gone for good, he keeps crawling back. One of the more bizarre commissions I picked up at SCG Atlanta:

I'm finally settling in Maryland and the painting studio (ie, the dining room table) is back up and running. Plenty more to come!

SCG Atlanta

It wouldn't be a SCG Open without at least one Jace commission:

The response here in Atlanta has been fantastic. This Saturday marks one of my most successful days working a Star City Open. Thanks to all those that came by the booth today - see you bright and early tomorrow morning!

Ready for the Weekend

Last commission before getting ready for Atlanta tomorrow. Then I move back to Maryland Tuesday! Exciting times.

Work In Progress

With all the news pouring in on the changes to both Magic ratings and the SCG Opens, I only got this card started this afternoon.

Stay tuned for more works in progress and be sure to follow me on Twitter for alter updates and exclusive sales/giveaways.

Edric^3

My forth Picasso-inspired alter. Lots of fun little details going on in this one.

The original art, by Volkan Baga, for reference:

Chandra Nouveau

As I tweeted a few days ago, I decided to skip FNM this week and start something ambitious. Credit goes to Mucha, once again, for the reference.

This is probably one of the first cards I've done where I've thought the gold (border rim and circles) just belonged. It doesn't show up great in the scan, but it really sets off the whole piece nicely. I'll be bringing this and many other cards to display at SCG Atlanta in just under a week. Getting excited!

Powerful Orbs, Drunken Robots

Mirari and I have a bit of a special history. Way back when Odyssey was released, I had just started attending FNM and my friends and I fantasized about opening a foil version of the mythical artifact. Sure, there were far better cards to wish for, but there was something so alluring about that lone, metallic orb. It just so happens that around three or four months after the release, when we had long abandoned our hopes of obtaining such a treasure, I cracked the shiniest of shiny spheres in the first pack of a draft. To this day, whenever I look at the card I'm brought back to that night at my old game store.

Anyway, I've had this idea for a while now:

And before I go: Special Robot Bonus!
